From the end of Year 11, you and your child will need to make decisions about whether to stay in education, move into training or enter the World of Work. Below you will find three helpful sections; information about education options, types of jobs and local opportunities.
Education Options
There are a variety of educational routes available to students when they reach the end of Year 11. One choice is Maplewell Hall School Post-16
Maplewell Post-16 offers 3 Programmes of Study (PoS)
PoS 1 = College Ready
This is a one-year course for students who want to go to FE College but don’t yet have the Preparation 4 Adulthood skills to do this at the end of year 11. The course will focus on developing these skills and at the end of year 12 they will leave. There are no entry requirements for this PoS.
Maplewell Post-16 will not be offering dual placements where students attend FE College courses for their academic provision and Maplewell Post-16 for their P4A needs. We have piloted this option in the past and they have been unsuccessful.
PoS 2 = Work Ready
This course is for students who do not want to go to college and intend to go into employment when they leave Maplewell. This is a two-year course that prepares students for the world of work and at the end of year 13 they will leave. There are no entry requirements for this PoS.
PoS 3 = Life Ready
This course is for students who are likely to go on to a specialist provision when they leave Maplewell. Students on this course will have to leave at the end of year 14, but may leave earlier if they wish. This course is not suitable for students who achieve GCSE grades in English or Maths.
