Computing – Core

All students do Core Computing as per the National Curriculum.

Generic Skills & Knowledge

At the start of every year, students will have induction time which gives them time to settle in and gain familiarity with the computers. The specific areas covered are:

  • Accessing computers
  • Folder and file management
  • Utilising the Cloud
  • Using a Web Based Learning platform

Computer Safety

This includes:

  • Safety practical
  • Safety theory
  • Expectations

Project

A project is undertaken which makes use of various aspects of Computing knowledge and skills.

Working with Data

Students create a spreadsheet model and use it to aid decision making.

Careers

A range of careers are explored to give students the opportunity of realising how knowledge and skills can provide an income.

This includes:

  • Creating a Curriculum Vitae
  • Creating a letter of application
  • Using careers guidance online platform

Programming & Control

Towards the end of the academic year students have the opportunity to learn programming.

Standard ways of working are embedded throughout to ensure students are learning efficiently and presenting effectively.

There is a theoretical and practical aspect to all topics.
